Path of Exile developers Grinding Gear Games has revealed more information about their timeline for Path of Exile 2. Grinding Gear Games who announced a sequel to their highly addictive game Path of Exile back on November 15, 2019 has given more details about their roadmap. Path of Exile 2 will have four new expansions (3.10.0 – 3.13.0) releasing in 2020 on their usual quarterly schedule.

“The first of these, 3.10.0, will probably be announced in late February. The timing of the expansions may vary by a week or two from last year’s ones, as we work around various holidays/events and make sure that the bigger ones have enough time to be fully tested.”

Grinding Gear Games is working on 4.0.0 with an expected preview of new content around the middle of the year potentially by E3. A public beta could follow the preview in late 2020. Grinding Gear Games also talked about the expansion of their console team with the focus on building features and pushing those updates faster. Path of Exile Mobile is progressing forward after feedback from ExileCon where a demo was available for attendees. It is refreshing to see a development team listen to the community and push at full momentum to get the content out to the dedicated player base.

One Game, Two Campaigns

Path of Exile 2 will combine the campaigns of Path of Exile 1 and 2 with the focus on introducing a new skill system, game engine improvements, keeping all the past expansions, ascendancy classes, and more. For players of Path of Exile 1 all of your purchased items, expansions, and more will carry over to Path of Exile 2. The game engine has been updated to support better lighting conditions and special effects. The most notable parts of the update show a new “shapeshifting” feature that allows players to transform during battle and gems will no longer be socketed to loot.

Upcoming Changes for Path of Exile 2

  • They set the story 20 years after the death of Kitava.
  • 19 new ascendancy classes will be available
  • Introducing a new skill gem system that fixes the issues from Path of Exile 1 that will make it possible to six-link all skills.
  • Improvements to the passive skill tree, weapons, and armor progression systems.
