Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order has just been released and it looks like EA is not going to stop there. In a recent interview, EA Motive general manager Patrick Klaus, while talking about the restructuring efforts of his studio, revealed in a side-note that the team is working on a new and “very unique” Star Wars game.
Just a couple of days ago, GamesIndustry.biz editor Brendan Sinclair sat down with EA Motive’s Vice President and general manager Patrick Klaus. In the interview, they mainly talked about how EA Motive is trying to rebuild from the ground up after their reputation plummeted in the past 2-3 years or so. We all know why. As you may also know, the studio was lead by industry veteran Jade Raymond for a couple of years. Under her management, games such as Star Wars Battlefront II were released. She was also partly involved in the production of Anthem. Raymond is mostly “infamous” for canceling the long-awaited Star Wars game that was in development at EA’s Visceral studio. Jade Raymond has since moved on to Google to lead their first-party content studio Stadia Games & Entertainment.
Shortly after Raymond left, EA turned back to former EA manager Patrick Klaus, who at the time lead Ubisoft Quebec. He agreed to come back and try to save the sinking ship. In the interview with GamesIndustry, he explains his decision by saying that a lot has changed at EA, including the management structure. He says EA feels almost like a new company. One that has learned from its mistakes and is now trying to do a 180. By restructuring and re-focussing on quality.
A new Star Wars game
As he goes on, he briefly mentions that EA Motive is working on an entirely new IP, and along with that as well, a new and “very unique” Star Wars experience. Sadly, he didn’t go into any details so all that we know at this point is that EA Motive is working on a new Star Wars game. This does not come as a surprise, really, given that EA holds a long-lasting and exclusive license for Star Wars games. Let’s just hope it won’t become another disaster like the Battlefront series. If the recent Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order release is any indication, then we may be on to something good.
