Destiny 2 is a beautiful game. Its skyboxes are massive and detailed. Each planet or location has its own visual identity, with different organic matter, different architecture, and different geography. But what happens when you go where the developers don’t want you to go? Enter the world of the strangely beautiful Destiny 2 out of bounds glitches.
But what happens when you go where the developers don’t want you to go?
In many places, it is surprisingly easy to find a spot where some textures don’t quite align and you can just …leave. Sometimes you take one step and just fall to your doom, sometimes you can go exploring for hours. It’s strangely meditative. And mesmerizing.
Sometimes, it’s as easy as crouching into a wall and you’re off – slipping into another world. Sometimes it’s in a spot with lots of traffic – Right behind Petra on middle curse week, you can slip out of the map and into the beyond.
Sometimes, you have to climb up a chimney, then find just the right spot to get to the next chimney, then climb up from there.
Often, you’ll find a promising spot, but then just end up finding another death barrier.
Being outside the map makes you see all the little details the developers put in.
And sometimes, it looks like you’re supposed to be there.
Another thing you’ll notice is the lighting. You’ll walk two steps in one direction, and suddenly the lighting shifts completely. Dramatic shadows, pools of lights, complete darkness, in about two steps.
Enemies will be able to see you and follow you with their eyes, like an old painting.
And sometimes, things will be shattered and nonsensical.
There’s always more – another platform you could maybe reach. The entrance to a strike mission. One of the Ascendant Realms, with all the lights turned off. But somehow, it doesn’t make me feel the same way as chasing yet another pinnacle. I have all the time in the world.
What exactly are Destiny 2 out of bounds glitches?
All game worlds are an elaborate illusion – developers and artists will only create what they need to. After all, why would they create a part of the map you can never set foot in? Out of bounds glitches allow you to go past the map’s boundaries. All the strange phenomena are just you seeing the game’s assets from angles they weren’t designed for – when developers forget to close the doors if you will.
How to get there
If you want to go exploring yourself, there are a couple of things to consider. The best class to use is Warlock, due to the Warlock’s special abilities. Strafe Glide allows the most precise control in the game, while Burst Glide is necessary for swordflying. Additionally, you will want to use middle tree Dawnblade – just holding the healing grenade will allow you to float for huge distances. Additionally, a sword will give you even more range. Jump, swipe with your sword, activate Burst Glide, and you’ll maintain the momentum you got from your sword. Worldline Zero is trickier to learn but allows you to cross huge gaps. Finally, The Mountaintop with Sticky Grenades selected allows you to climb up walls with some practice.
All these abilities and maneuvers allow you to reach places that you’re not supposed to reach. And with a bit of luck, you’ll find yourself in one of those out of bounds areas. As for where you can glitch out of bounds – most of them are hard to explain with words. Your best bet is to google for “Destiny 2 Out Of Bounds” and you should get a generous selection to get you started. A lot of them are on Youtube.
